New Programme offers school holiday breaks for kids - and carers

Hundreds of children from throughout New Zealand will get the chance to attend school holiday camps designed to give them their foster , kin or whanau carers a relaxing break this summer.

The first 'KidzaCool Adventures' programmes for children in care will be held in January and April, at each of the country's seven Te Puna Whaiora Children's Health Camp location.

The Goverment-funded camps are about giving children in care some fun and advanture, while their carers can have time to relax or catch up with friends and family.

Carers can register children in their care who are aged 5-12, who have lived with them for more than 12 months.

Children's Health Camp Chief Executive Dr Fiona Inkpen said the camps would give children a variety of action, adventure, games, arts, crafts, quiet times and socialising.

"The idea is to give children a holiday that is all about fun," Dr Inkpen said. "It will also be a wonderful opportunity for many carers, who will be able to catch up on some of the things they might not always get the time or space to do."

Te Puna Whaiora Childrens Health Camps working with Grandparents Raising Granchildren Trust, Nz Family and Foster Care Fedaration Inc and Child, Youth and Family to make the camp succesful.
