Te Reo Irirangi O Turanganui A Kiwa was established by Te Runanga O Turanganui A Kiwa in 1992 as a Private Limited Liability Company and registered under the 1955 Companies Act. Te Runanga O Turanganui A Kiwa is the licence holder for the station and owns the company one hundred percent.
In 1985, Te Runanga o Turanganui-a-Kiwa (TROTAK) was established with the support and mandate of Rongowhakaata, Ngai Tamanuhiri and Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki Iwi.
It was their vision and still is, to acquire:
- tino rangatiratanga or total control by the year 2008;
- social, welfare and economic prosperity; and
- recognition of the Treaty of Waitangi by the Crown and the local community
TROTAK maintained the responsibility for providing a range of services, including health services, to the people of Turanganui-a-Kiwa.
Is the Iwi Tertiary Education provider of Te Rūnanga O Tūranganui Ā Kiwa and was established to provide and promote the skills, knowledge and qualifications to enable Iwi to manage, advance and control cultural and economic resources being the land, the forests, the sea and most importantly our people.
Our core business is the provision of adult learning and employment programmes and services focusing on the needs and aspirations of Iwi, however not to the exclusion of others.
Te Aitanga a Mahaki Trust represents Te Aitanga a Mahaki as an "iwi authority" for the purposes of the Resource Management Act 1991 and as the "mandated iwi organisation" under the Maori Fisheries Act 2004. www.tekahuimangai.govt.nz
