Carers offered chance to apply for holiday break

Te Kainga Whaiora Children's Village in Gisborne is calling for applications for special April school holiday programme for children in care from around the East Coast.

The 'KidzaCool Adventures' will give children a one week holiday - so that their foster kin or whanau carers can also take a well deserved break

The programme will run fron April 6 to April 9 and again from April 12 to April 16. Registration close 5 March.

The Government-funded camps are about giving in care some fun and adventure, while their carers can also have time to relax or catch up with friends and family. Carers can register children in their care who are aged 5 - 12, who have lived with thwm for more than 12 months.

Te Kainga Whaiora Children's Village hosted its first KidzaColl Adventure in January this year.

Camp manager Awhiora Nia Nia Tai said the first camp was a huge success.

"The children has a wonderful time, enjoying a variety of action, adventure, games, arts, crafts, quiet times and socialising. Some said it was the best holiday that they had ever had," Mrs Nia Nia Tai said.

"We are looking forward to offering lots more fun and adventures for children in care this April. It will also be a wonderful opportunity for many carers, who will be able to catch up on some of the things thei might not always get the time or space to do"
