Te Matatini 2011 will be our first National Kapa Haka Festival for 34 years and Tairawhiti wants to make it the best ever! It will certainly be different - not in a concrete and chrone environment, but on our whenua - natural amphitheatre where the Rhythm & Vines festival is held annually - at WAI O HIKA.
Winning the bid to host Te Matatini 2011 was a huge achievement in itself. Then we hosted the National Primary Kapa Haka Competitions at Rugby Part in November 2009 in a way that it had never been done before and sincerely acknowledge the support of the many volunteers and sponsorship from many organisations. Now here we are i 2010 - the 58th year of Tamararo - with a great line-up of teams for Sineor Tamararo, many choosing to participate to tautoko the kaupapa of Tamararo and to enable as many of the judges are unavalible because they're performing this year. The number of tems "on paper" at the moment will qualify 5 or 6 groups to compete at Te Matatini, and we thank each and every roopu and every single performer for uploading the mana of Tamararo and Tairawhiti.
