Te Runanga o Turanganui a Kiwa have currently completed the first phase of a success indicator project with the Ministry of Education. Auntie Horiwia Bradbrook, Pimia Wehi and Peter Moeau have worked with Maringi Brown to complete a template to go out to the beneficiaries of the Runanga for feedback and mandating. The Team travelled to Napier and were met there by Uncle Rev Matauranga and Aunty Carol Te Maipi. The project identifies key competency areas to develop a critical foundation to learning and success. It affirms cultural identity and is based on Turanga tikanga and reo.
They presented the project to the Napier Ministry in the middle of March 2007. The project is called Te Hau Tu. This name represents the connection Turanga have to the manutukutuku.
Ma te huruhuru ka rere te manu, ma te hau tu ka piki te manu kia rere.
The Team also met with Ngati Kahungunu Incorporated Society. This was an excellent iwi to iwi forum that the Runanga are looking forward to nurturing. There was an opportunity to exchange aspirations, lessons and networks.
The Team are standing outside their Motel ready to begin their day of meeting commitments.
